Annual Event: brindle Cuckoo Walk
‘Brindle Cuckoo Walks’ were first held in the Autumn of 2004 but have been organised in the Spring of subsequent years.
They are circular walks from Brindle Community Hall visiting the surrounding countryside at a beautiful time of the year when the meadows and hedgerows are bursting into life.
Each year we try to vary the routes to make attractive, interesting and safe walks which are suitable for walkers of differing experience and ability and they include distances of 3, 6, 9, 12 and 24 miles. The longer walks have generally headed out to Withnell Moors and beyond and are obviously suitable for strong walkers. The shorter walks stay closer to Brindle and are suitable for regular walkers and also younger walkers in family groups.
Light refreshments are provided mid-way on all the walks except the 24 mile route (where walkers are expected to be independent) and a wholesome hot meal is provided by our dedicated team in the Hall on completion of the walk. To cover the cost of refreshments, administration, insurance, printing and so on, a fee is payable when walkers register.
A raffle takes place on the walks’ day which we hope you will also support. Tickets will be on sale before setting out and drawn during the walk. Proceeds from this and any profits from the walks are donated to nominated worthy causes.
Each year the event is advertised widely in ‘Brindle Voice’, local notice boards, and the Community Hall website. Previous walkers are also contacted either by post or preferably by e-mail. If you want to register your interest now and have not participated in previous years, then contact cuckoowalks@btinternet.com with your e-mail address and this will be added to the contact list. We have a great team of helpers on the day but are always glad of new members, so if you would like to offer your help with any aspect of the walks please get in touch with me.
We normally have approaching 200 walkers, including many who return each year, but if you hope to join us for the first time, you can be assured that you will receive a very warm ‘Brindle’ welcome.
We look forward to seeing you at next year’s walks.
