This year’s Cuckoo Walks took place on the 22nd April. Once again, we were blessed with a beautiful, and sunny Spring day and mostly dry conditions under foot. There were almost 200 walkers with a wide age range and everyone seemed to have an enjoyable day. The six mile route was the most popular distance with almost ninety walkers, whilst the nine and three mile routes had about forty on each, and some twenty on the twelve mile route. We had some very favourable comments about the organization, the interesting routes, the good food, but most importantly the warm and friendly welcome given which was greatly appreciated.
We raised a tidy sum, which including the excellent raffle, has enabled us to make donations of about £450 each to Breast Cancer Care and the Community Hall towards a project there. Thank you to everyone who provided prizes and those who made deserts for the walkers’ lunch.
This was my ninth and final year of involvement with the walks, the last seven of which I have had overall responsibility. The success of the walks has only been possible with the great support from ‘the team’ in the back ground for which I am very grateful and of course, the walkers who continue to come each year as well as those coming for the first time. My thanks to everyone involved this year and in the previous years and I hope you will all continue to support my successor, William de Hamel, in the years to come.
